Diet guru Michael Mosley's wife Clare Bailey Mosley thanks for support after her husband was found dead in the Greek world.
Michael Mosley has been found dead on the Greek island of Symi. The mayor of the island was himself out and looking and found the world-renowned diet guru.
The mayor, Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, says that Mosley's body was found at 10 am local time by him and a Greek TV team hired to film in an area that could be a possible find location.
They were on a boat when they saw something that could be a body on land – and alerted the authorities.
Mosley was found 20 meters above the Agia Marina beach. According to Papakaloudoukas, the body appeared to have fallen down a cliff and landed against a fence. Some stones were on the body. Much suggests to Papakaloudoukas that Mosley was struck by heatstroke and dehydration.
Many parts of Greece have set new heat records at the beginning of June. On Symi, the temperature has reached 39.3 degrees in recent days, according to AFP.
The area where the body was found is inaccessible and is also "full of snakes", according to the mayor.
Clare Bailey Mosley says in a statement that she is devastated to have lost her "wonderful, funny, nice and fantastic" man. She thanks for the support from the public and the population of Symi, which has tirelessly participated in the search for Michael Mosley.
"We are trying to comfort ourselves with the fact that he was very close to making it. He made an incredible climb, but took the wrong path and collapsed at a place difficult to access for rescue teams," she says.
It was at lunchtime on Wednesday that the world-renowned doctor and author Michael Mosley disappeared during a hike on the Greek island of Symi, where he was on vacation with his wife Clare. Mosley set off on a hike on his own and without his mobile phone.
Since then, rescue teams have been searching for him at sea and on land with large resources, including divers, drones, helicopters, and coastal guard units.
With the help of surveillance footage, it was soon established that Mosley had hiked down from the mountains and reached the village of Pedi, which is located by the coast, and then continued on a more challenging hiking trail up the mountains. But the trail ended there.
Michael Mosley, 67, was a doctor by training, but became a world-renowned name as an author and TV presenter. Among other things, he was a major advocate for intermittent fasting and launched popular diets such as 5:2 and 16:8 over a decade ago, which made him known in Sweden.
Many of his books have been translated into Swedish and he has frequently appeared in Swedish media.
