Truls Möregårdh entered the prestigious Europa Top 16 tournament on Friday, where the best-ranked players in Europe compete against each other. In the round of 16, the Swedish star faced Alvaro Robles, ranked 29th in the world.

And it was a tough start against the left-handed Spaniard, and Möregårdh lost the first set 12–10. But then the world number seven woke up.

The Swede took home the three subsequent sets and secured a spot in the quarterfinals. There, he will face Portuguese Marcos Freitas.

The final scores were 10–12, 11–7, 11–9, 11–7.

Möregårdh has two final losses in the major tournament so far in his career (2022 and 2024), but has never won.

For the tournament's second Swede, Anton Källberg, it went worse. The 27-year-old was pitted against world number nine Dang Qiu, Germany, and lost 0–3 in sets (12–14, 9–11, 7–11).

On the women's side, Linda Bergström advanced to the quarterfinals, after winning against Nina Mittelham, Germany, with 3–0 in sets.

J-O Waldner is, along with German Timo Boll, the most successful in the tournament's history with his seven victories.
