E-commerce sales increased by a billion more in November compared to December.
The high cost increases for households in recent years are believed to be the explanation.
"The economic situation means that consumers are chasing discounted prices and many are buying their Christmas gifts earlier", says Per Ljungberg, innovation manager at Svensk Handel in a press release.
At the same time, many are choosing to online shop for their Christmas gifts from abroad, which concerns Svensk Handel. In a follow-up survey conducted among a thousand consumers, 17 percent responded that they had bought Christmas gifts from the Chinese low-price companies Temu and Shein.
"The figures are simply frightening", thinks Per Ljungberg, who wants the government to "put a stop to the Chinese online giants' free ride".
Despite e-commerce being larger in November, online sales increased in December to 16.4 billion kronor, which is four percent more compared to December 2023.
