Five additional Israeli settlers and three settlement organizations are affected by EU sanctions due to violent incidents in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The individuals named, including well-known settlement leaders such as Baruch Marzel and Bentzi Gopstein, are accused of "serious and systematic human rights violations against Palestinians", according to a statement from the EU Council of Ministers.

The sanctions take the form of a travel ban to the EU, freezing of potential assets in the EU, and a prohibition on EU citizens making economic transactions with the individuals named.

The EU, like the USA, has toughened its stance against violent settlers and made a first sanctions decision earlier this spring, targeting four individuals and two organizations.
