More EU sanctions against settlers

Five additional Israeli settlers and three settlement organizations are affected by EU sanctions due to violent incidents in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The individuals named, including well-known settlement leaders such as Baruch Marzel and Bentzi Gopstein, are accused of "serious and systematic human rights violations against Palestinians", according to a statement from the EU Council of Ministers.

The sanctions take the form of a travel ban to the EU, freezing of potential assets in the EU, and a prohibition on EU citizens making economic transactions with the individuals named.

The EU, like the USA, has toughened its stance against violent settlers and made a first sanctions decision earlier this spring, targeting four individuals and two organizations.
