Around 100 million captagon pills are reported to have been destroyed by Syria's new government.
Under dictator Bashar al-Assad, the country's production of the amphetamine-like substance flourished. Under the deposed leader, the drug generated more money than the country's entire official GDP, according to experts.
According to AFP, the drugs were taken to a field over the weekend where they were burned. The small white captagon pills are said to have been hidden, among other things, in toys, children's bicycles, and furniture.
Up to 15 tons of hashish and raw materials used in captagon production were also burned, according to the authorities.
