The national team captain of Mexico's football team, Jaime Lozano, has been sacked after the defeat in the South American Championship. Mexico stayed on four points and was eliminated already in the group stage.

According to the Mexican Football Association, he was offered to stay on as assistant coach for two years and potentially take over as head coach again after the World Championship 2026 – something Lozano declined.

"It was one of the toughest decisions I've had to make", writes Lozano on social media.
