At least 24 people are missing after floodwater swept through a village in northern Yemen, which has caused both homes and shops to be flooded.

The floods in the district of Melhan in the province of Al-Mahwit have been caused by heavy rainfall in recent days, according to a statement from the Huthi movement.

Monsoon rains late in the summer often lead to flooding in the war-torn and famine-stricken country, and there are signs that the country is experiencing more extreme weather events due to climate change.
