"The suspected man is not considered able to influence the investigation in any significant way, which is why no grounds for detention exist", says prosecutor Ludvig Wiröstrand in a press release.
The suspicions against the man remain, even though the crime has been reclassified to aggravated assault.
It was the parents themselves who took the child to healthcare in Västerås a few days ago, from where it was transported further to the Academic Hospital in Uppsala. There, the healthcare services alerted the police, who arrested the parents on the spot. The woman was later released, but she is still suspected.
The child was reported to be seriously injured and is still being cared for, according to UNT, at the hospital.
