"Since the killing was done with the wife's consent and in accordance with her wishes, and as she died immediately and without any unnecessary suffering, the district court shares the prosecutor's assessment that the act should be considered as manslaughter", says chief magistrate Margareta Hansson in a press release.
The woman was found dead in her home in a town in northwestern Skåne on January 15. The man has claimed that the woman had contacted an unknown person to help her die and that he himself had let this person into the house. But the court considers this to be disproven.
The woman was killed with a pistol found in the house, and it was her husband who committed the crime, according to the district court. The investigation has shown that the couple's joint plan was for the man to first shoot his wife and then himself.
The man is convicted of multiple crimes, including weapons offenses.
