A man has been arrested in Japan after kicking a wild rabbit. The animal is said to have later died.

The incident took place on the island of Ohkunoshima in Hiroshima Prefecture, where over 1,000 rabbits roam freely and are often fed by tourists.

According to reports in local media, the police are now investigating whether the arrested 25-year-old can be linked to the many rabbits that have been found dead on the island in recent months.

Since November, 77 dead rabbits have been discovered on Ohkunoshima, according to the authorities. The cause of death is unclear.
