According to the indictment, the woman died from the injuries she sustained after being subjected to "severe blunt violence" to her head and body at some point between March 22 and 23.
It was the 61-year-old who alerted the police that the woman had suffered a cardiac arrest, and initially, it was treated as a medical emergency.
"Initially, the woman was believed to have suffered a medical emergency, but doctors soon discovered that she had sustained serious injuries, which led to suspicion of a crime," writes the Prosecution Authority in a press release.
The man was arrested the same day and has been in custody since then.
The woman, who was in her 50s, died from her injuries two days later, on March 25.
Both the murder and the aggravated rape, which according to the indictment took place on March 22, are suspected to have been committed in the couple's shared residence.
During the trial, which begins on November 21, an expert will testify about the so-called normalization process to prove that the woman had become accustomed to the violence.
The man denies the crime.
