The 61-year-old himself alerted the police on Saturday morning, March 23. He claimed that the woman had suffered a heart attack, and the incident was initially handled as a medical emergency.
However, doctors quickly realized that the woman had severe injuries, and suspicion of a crime arose. The man was arrested, and the woman, who was in her 50s, died from her injuries two days later, on March 25.
The 61-year-old has been detained since then and was charged with murder on Friday. According to prosecutor Anna Wennergren, the woman died as a result of the injuries inflicted by the man, through "severe blunt violence" against her head and body.
The reason it is stated as such in the indictment is that I cannot show how the suspect used this violence against her, she says.
The man is also suspected of having subjected the woman to a serious sexual assault after the violent attack. The evidence in this part consists, among other things, of films that the man himself had saved.
Both the murder and the serious sexual assault are alleged to have taken place in the couple's shared residence.
During the trial, which begins on November 21, an expert will testify about the so-called normalization process, to prove that violence had been normalized by the woman.
The suspect is not charged with anything other than what is stated in the indictment, however, I believe that this woman has been subjected to violence for a long time, says Anna Wennergren.
I believe it shows and strengthens the intent of the suspect and that it has led to this situation, which ultimately resulted in her death.
