A man in his 30s and his stepson were found dead on Sunday after a swim in the Pite River.
The two went down to the river at 11 am in the morning at a campsite in Älvsbyn Municipality, but shortly afterwards, it was discovered that they were missing.
The current took them away. There can be quite strong currents from and to, and a lot of water has come now, says Mathias Borin, commander at Police Region North.
A large search effort was initiated immediately after the disappearance.
We alerted a helicopter, had a diving team on site searching, and Missing People were also involved, says Mathias Borin.
The family has been informed of the deaths.
