Malmö secured the playoffs in the extension of the very last regular season round. Against Rögle.
But it didn't take long before Rögle would get a chance for revenge. In the playoffs, it was precisely the Skåne team that clashed in the eighth final. But even there, Malmö would be the bigger number. After 2–0 in matches, 3–0 on Saturday, the tenth in the regular season is clear for the quarterfinal.
The fact is that the win was Malmö's sixth straight in the Skåne derby. The last time Rögle took home the rivalry match was on February 24, 2024.
"Speaks for itself"
But no further explanation for the "derby ghost" did Dennis Everberg – who was team captain for the day since Anton Bengtsson was absent – want to give.
We meet a good team, and we're not good enough right now, he says in TV4 Play.
And despite Rögle having their backs against the wall before Saturday's match, it was all decided quickly.
Already after one period, Malmö had one foot in the quarterfinal, when they went to the break with a stable 3–0 lead. A result that would stand the test of the match.
It's clear that it's nice. It's a damn nice feeling. This team has gotten better and better throughout the journey, and we've had some tough valleys. Somewhere, we believed in it, and trusted each other, says Tomas Kollar in TV4 Play and continues:
The group has only gotten stronger and stronger. I'm impressed by how the team takes itself together and plays as a team.
Örebro equalized the match series
But in the quarterfinal, it will be tougher. There, Malmö will face the regular season winner Brynäs. The quarterfinals begin on March 20.
Which team table-second Luleå will meet is not yet clear. This after Örebro evened out the match series to 1–1 in matches, after 4–1 on the road on Saturday. Patrik Puistola became the big match hero with his two goals.
It will be decided instead on Monday in a completely decisive meeting.
