1996 was the last time a Swede competed in the 100 meters at an Olympic Games. Until now, when Henrik Larsson had qualified.
But already in the trials, it came to a halt. The Swede didn't get the running going and finished seventh in his heat. The clock stopped at 10.24.
Afterwards, the 24-year-old was thoroughly disappointed over the miscalculation.
It's probably the worst I've experienced in my career. As I said, I was in the best shape of my life before. But when I get out, it's something that feels "off". My body doesn't respond, it's like I have jelly in my legs, he says to Max after the miss and continues:
I don't know what went wrong, actually. It's a mystery right now.
Larsson has run significantly faster and holds the Swedish record at 10.08. But at the Olympic Games, when it really mattered, it didn't work out for the Swede.
It's the biggest you've dreamed of, to then do your worst championship in several years, it's just so damn bad. It's just to forget and move on, but anyway, it's going to sting for a long time.
