The rescue service has been fighting the fire in the hotel building since Saturday night, which was closed for renovation and therefore did not have any guests.
The fire has proven to be difficult to extinguish.
There are several floors that have collapsed in the building, and the top floors are no longer there, said Jonas Nylén, the duty rescue chief, to TT earlier on Sunday.
In the afternoon, the extinguishing work was still in full swing. Three units from the rescue service plus a command vehicle were working on extinguishing the fire.
Due to the risk of collapse, the rescue service is not working inside the building, but is instead spraying water from the outside. With the help of cranes with claws, the interior is being lifted out and extinguished outside.
We still have some small fires inside the property, says Tobias Aldgård, the duty officer at the rescue service.
We have set a prognosis to complete the rescue operation at 8 am tomorrow, but we will continue to evaluate it.
The rescue service currently sees no risk of the fire spreading to neighboring buildings.
However, there is a risk of collapse from the facade, and therefore two streets, Järnvägsgatan and Södra Strandgatan, are still blocked off. It is also unclear when the 40-odd people who were evacuated from adjacent buildings can return.
