Swedish star defender Erik Karlsson started strongly as his Pittsburgh defeated Washington with 4-2 in tonight's NHL. Extremely good, says Pittsburgh's coach Mike Sullivan.

After seven minutes of play, the 34-year-old had not only scored a goal but also delivered an elegant pass that teammate Michael Bunting skillfully steered in with just one hand on the stick.

I thought he had a really strong game. He played extremely well. He has the ability to influence, says Pittsburgh's coach Mike Sullivan about Erik Karlsson's performance.

He describes the pass to Bunting like this:

But Washington came back shortly after, with a reduction by Rasmus Sandin. In the second period, the home team had equalized the match.

Pittsburgh, however, managed to retake the lead in the third period and won 4–2 after a final goal in an open net. Pittsburgh's Marcus Pettersson was credited with an assist.
