The Japanese postal chain Japan Post will no longer deliver live reptiles. The reason is animal welfare concerns, says a spokesperson.

After consulting with the government, we have realized that transporting animals in an environment where temperature control and food are not available can amount to animal abuse, she says.

The new rule will come into effect on April 1. Previously, Japan Post did not allow mammals or birds to be sent by post.
