Jakobsson and San Diego have agreed to terminate the contract so that she can take on "other opportunities abroad." The club writes on its website.

The 34-year-old has played for San Diego since 2022 when she joined from Bayern München.

"We wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career," says sports manager Camille Ashton.

Which club she will play for next is not yet clear. But last week, the British BBC could reveal that Jakobsson is close to signing with London City Lionesses.

The team plays in the English second division and is making a big push for promotion. Ahead of the season, among others, Swedish players Kosovare Asllani and Julia Roddar have been recruited. The club is owned by businesswoman Michele Kang, who according to Asllani "wants to redraw the entire women's football map".
