I think that Falsterbo is selling out its soul when it deviates from the traditional. Falsterbo Horse Show is a concept in the equestrian world that one should be very careful with. It's like if Ikea were to change its name to something Russian, says Thomas Magnusson, owner of Tmac Stallinredningar, to the newspaper.
In a post on Facebook, which Sydsvenskan has taken part of, Magnusson means that equestrian sports are divided into two camps, the so-called "champagne people" and "tap water people". He links Falsterbo's name change to a sponsor from the United Arab Emirates to the former.
All sports are selling out more and more to Arab countries. I am completely against it, we are becoming more and more dependent on the gigantic sums of money and believe that it will make our sports grow and become better. On the contrary – we get even more elite and less breadth. People cannot afford to engage in sports.
This year's horse week in Falsterbo in Vellinge municipality is arranged between July 5 and 13.
