Iran's new president Masoud Pezeshkian signaled that he wants to open a new, constructive chapter in the country's history during a speech in the UN General Assembly.

I aim to lay a strong foundation for my country's entry into a new era, to position it so that it can play an effective and constructive role in the evolving global order, said Pezeshkian in his speech.

He said at the same time that all others, including the USA, must do their part and appealed for relief from the sanctions against Iran.

Like previous Iranian presidents, he directed harsh criticism towards Israel and accused the country of "atrocities" and "crimes against humanity". Iran supports both Hamas, which is labeled as a terrorist organization, and Hezbollah, which both fight against Israel in Gaza and Lebanon respectively.

Pezeshkian said that Israel's powerful attacks on Lebanon in recent days cannot go unanswered.
