After a young medical student in Calcutta, India was raped and murdered, thousands of doctors in the country have gone on strike as a call for better security for healthcare personnel.
The woman's body was severely injured when it was found on Friday and the autopsy confirmed sexual assault and that she had been murdered, reports The Guardian.
A man who allegedly had some form of employment at the hospital where the woman worked has been arrested.
The doctor protests for better security began in Calcutta but have since spread to other parts of India.
About 300,000 doctors across the country have joined the protest and we expect more to do so tomorrow", says doctor Sarvesh Pandey to CNN.
