A hospital in Skåne is being criticized by Ivo, the Health and Social Care Inspectorate, after a child died following childbirth, reports Kristianstadsbladet.
The pregnant woman came in for a check-up prior to a planned cesarean section and reported that she had felt decreased fetal movements over the past 24 hours. An ultrasound and CTG, electronic monitoring of the baby's heart rate, were performed.
In total, three CTGs were performed, all of which showed serious deviations and none of the curves were approved. Despite this, the doctor approved the results and the woman was sent home.
When she came in for emergency care two days later, an emergency cesarean section was performed and the child died shortly after.
The incident was reported to Ivo, which has now identified several shortcomings in the hospital's handling and that a lack of knowledge "may have contributed to the child's death" according to the decision.
