Protest against new journal system: "Fiasco"

A healthcare center has paused the new journal system – and is writing by hand instead. At an X-ray department, a protective stop was introduced. The employees' protests against the system continue. It's still chaos, says doctor Wojciech Skup.

Wojciech Skup, chief physician at the neurology department at Södra Älvsborgs hospital (Säs), made big headlines when he on Tuesday interrupted the region's press conference and openly criticized the newly introduced journal system Millennium.

At lunchtime on Thursday, Skup and many other healthcare employees protested outside the hospital entrance.

I've received flowers from various places and very nice messages, says the chief physician to Borås Tidning.

But the system doesn't work better because of this, it's still chaos, it's still a fiasco.

Concern for patient safety

The new journal system, which began to be introduced in parts of the Västra Götaland region on Tuesday, has already received harsh criticism, not least from healthcare personnel, who have testified to a complicated system and inadequate internal training.

But many employees are also worried that patient safety is threatened by Millennium.

This has, among other things, led to the healthcare center in Kinna pausing the system – and temporarily switching to pen and paper, reports P4 Sjuhärad.

Important words disappear

For a few hours, a protective stoppage from the trade union Saco was also in effect at Säs radiology department due to diagnoses becoming incorrect in the new system.

Important words disappear. "No bleeding" becomes "bleeding", for example, said the chief safety representative Laura Raduta to Dagens Nyheter.

In addition, the system shift has been marked by other technical problems. Among other things, the new system has so far proven to be slower than expected, confirms the region in a press release.
