During a student party in Malmö, a headteacher intervened when two students held up a Palestinian flag on stage. A video clip of the headteacher pulling the student off the stage and continuing to tug at the flag has gone viral on social media.
Now, Malmö City has concluded its investigation and found that the headteacher was right to take the flag, but should not have continued the tug-of-war once the student had left the stage, reports SVT News Skåne.
According to the investigation, the student broke the school's rules of conduct.
Our assessment is that when the headteacher intervenes to take the flag from the student on stage, it is something that is entirely in line with the school's rules of conduct and the Education Act. But he should have stopped his intervention at the latest when the student was off the stage. There, it becomes disproportionate, says Johan Aspelin, education chief at the upper secondary and adult education administration in Malmö.
It is unclear what the consequences will be for the headteacher.
