The Sweden Democrats' party leader Jimmie Åkesson has been present at six of 80 votes in the Riksdag since the 2022 election. This means that he is the party leader with the highest absence in the Riksdag, reports SVT.
Party leaders who hold ministerial posts do not sit in the Riksdag. Among party leaders without ministerial posts, Åkesson's absence of 92 percent can be compared to Magdalena Andersson (S) who has a 59 percent absence from votes. Muharrem Demirok has a 43 percent absence, and the Green Party's spokespersons Daniel Helldén and Amanda Lind have 24 and 22 percent absences, respectively, during the time they were spokespersons.
In a comment to SVT, the Sweden Democrats write that Jimmie Åkesson, as party leader, has much else he needs to attend to.
"We are a team, where we all cooperate and cover for each other. To be effective in our work requires flexibility around votes, especially for the party leader who alone bears several other important commitments for the party."
Correction: In an earlier version, an incorrect formulation was given regarding party leaders with ministerial posts.
