Múte Bourup Egede has met with Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. At a joint press conference, the two leaders comment on the incoming US President Donald Trump's statement about taking control over Greenland.
When it comes to the question of independence, it begins and ends with Greenland, says Frederiksen.
Greenland's Prime Minister has not spoken with Trump but says he is ready to talk about what "unites us".
We cooperated with the USA yesterday, we do it today, and we will also cooperate with them tomorrow, says Egede.
But it must also happen on Greenland's terms. Cooperation is about dialogue and talking to each other to find solutions.
Frederiksen says it is both "legitimate and understandable" that Greenland wants to become independent.
Egede points out that the struggle for independence is not new.
The desire to be master of one's own house is something that all the world's people can understand, he says.
According to Frederiksen, Denmark has discussed with Greenland and the Faroe Islands how the countries can get more space in foreign policy. Today, security and foreign policy issues are governed from Copenhagen.
We do not yet know exactly how we will redefine the cooperation. But we agree to move forward to get an even more equal cooperation, says Frederiksen.
