The restaurants' requirement to offer food in order to be granted a permit to serve alcohol can be removed as early as next summer, says Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (Christian Democrats) to Sveriges Radio Ekot.

The Government announced in June this year that they wanted to expedite an investigation into abolishing the food requirement for businesses to obtain a serving permit.

But now Jakob Forssmed says the process will be accelerated, and that an investigation is not even needed. A memorandum will, according to the minister, be drawn up during the autumn and a finished legislation can be in place by next summer.

There will be an increased development of new types of places where people can socialize, says Forssmed to the radio.
