Åkesson has called a press conference in his hometown of Sölvesborg. The invitation was sent on Thursday evening. It is unclear whether he will make a new statement on SD's position on the government issue.
As recently as Tuesday, there was no indication of any change.
If we are to support a government that has been in power for the past four years, then we will also be in that government. We have no plans to move, Åkesson said at the time.
Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson has been tasked by the Speaker of the Riksdag with exploring the possibility of a Moderate-led government. For this to succeed, he needs to get C on his side.
The Centre Party says it received no advance information about the press conference and will follow it with interest.
C's position is that it cannot cooperate with a Moderate-led government that includes SD, or with one that cooperates with SD or depends on its support. How Kristersson will be able to manage without SD's support is currently difficult to see.
Sources in the Social Democrats believe that SD may try to soften its demand for a place in government and be open to allowing a purely M government to take office. This would make it as attractive as possible for C to switch sides.
This is a way to make things difficult for us, a central S source tells TT.
The talks between the red-greens are described as going well at the moment, and the source does not believe C will switch sides. They have "invested a lot" in opposing SD.
But you never know, says the source.
