Swedish Left Party MP Mohamed Ali regrets post claiming Israel knew of Hamas attack in advance

The Left Party's newly elected MP, Mohamed Ali, spread a conspiracy theory about Hamas's terrorist attack on Israel three years ago, Aftonbladet reports.

In a post from October 9, 2023, just two days after the attack, Mohamed Ali wrote on the social media platform X that Israeli, American and British intelligence “knew in advance that Hamas’s attack would happen” and that “Israel wants to appear as the victim in the coming war that they want,” according to Aftonbladet.

Mohamed Ali regrets the post today.

“The post was written two days after Hamas’s attack on Israel, at a time when uncertainty was great and many were speculating about what had happened and what could follow. It was a hasty post that I soon realized was inappropriate and unfounded,” he writes to the newspaper, continuing:

“I should have deleted it, but failed to do so. The account has been basically inactive for a long time, and the post reflects neither my views today nor my way of participating in the social debate.”

Left Party group leader Samuel Gonzalez Westling says the party has spoken to Ali about it.

"He has declared that he regrets what he wrote and does not stand behind the content. That is good, because that type of conspiracy theory has no place in the Left Party. The post was written three years ago, long before he was elected to parliament," he writes to Aftonbladet.
