Giuliani, who was the mayor of New York, has been convicted of defaming the two election workers in connection with the 2020 presidential election. According to the verdict, Giuliani made false claims that the two women, mother and daughter, engaged in electoral fraud when they counted votes.

Giuliani was sentenced to pay $148 million, equivalent to 1.6 billion kronor. He has filed for personal bankruptcy.

A trial would have begun about Giuliani's assets, to determine, among other things, whether he owned a condominium in Florida and three valuable rings from the World Championship baseball series. But the trial was cancelled when the parties reached a settlement.

"It has been four years of living nightmare", the two women wrote in a statement:

"But now we have reached a settlement so that we can continue with our lives. We have agreed that Giuliani gets to keep his home in exchange for compensation and a promise to never defame us in the future."

The contents of the settlement are not known, reports the news agency AP.
