The military junta in Mali has shut down the French-language TV channel TV5 Monde for three months for what it describes as a lack of "balance" in news reporting.
The authorities are criticizing the channel for reporting on the death of 15 civilians in a drone attack in the town of Tinzaouaten without allowing the military to give its version of the events.
The current reporting was broadcast on August 25 in the program "Africa", which reaches a large part of Mali's population.
TV5 Monde says in a statement that it did not receive the military's version when the program was broadcast, but that they were allowed to comment in a news broadcast the following day.
Mali has been ruled by a military junta since the double coups in 2020 and 2021. Since the junta came to power, it has banned the channels France 24, France 2, LCI and Radio France Internationale.
