The newly started AI company is called Thinking Machines Lab and among the employees are, among others, John Schulman, who was one of the founders of Open AI, and Lilian Weng, who was the deputy security chief at the company.
In total, a dozen of the 30 employees will come from Open AI.
According to a blog post, Thinking Machines Lab plans to build AI models with a focus on the collaboration between AI and humans.
"Current systems excel in programming and mathematics, we are instead building AI that can be adapted to the entire spectrum of human expertise", the company writes on its website.
Mira Murati left Open AI in September. She had been working there since 2018. For a short period in 2023, she was also the CEO, when the board made a coup attempt to remove Sam Altman from the post.
Murati was, however, among those who defended Altman.
