One of the buildings at Saltoluokta mountain station was destroyed in a fire on Friday night. No one was injured. There was staff on site, but no guests, since the facility had not yet opened for the season.
The destroyed building had about a quarter of the station's guest beds, but the Swedish Tourist Association writes in a press release that the hope is to be able to open as planned on February 27.
The main building, built in 1918, as well as the other guesthouses, are undamaged.
Saltoluokta is located about twelve miles northwest of Gällivare, adjacent to the World Heritage Site Laponia.
