The number of acute myocardial infarctions continues to decrease. Last year, there were approximately 22,200 cases, a five percent decrease compared to 2022.

The number of acute heart attacks in Sweden has decreased by nearly 40 percent since 2013, among both men and women.

The number of deaths resulting from an acute heart attack is also decreasing. Last year, around 4,400 people who suffered a heart attack died, which is a halving compared to 2013.

"The positive development we have seen over a long period has several causes. Partly, changed and better living habits have contributed, and healthcare has also become better at identifying and treating risk factors. Gradually, the care after acute heart attack has also improved", says Bruno Ziegler, medical expert at the National Board of Health and Welfare, in a press release.
