The EU's foreign ministers will meet in Brussels on January 27 to discuss possible eased sanctions against Syria, writes the Union's foreign chief Kaja Kallas on X.
However, any easing also depends on how the new government in Syria acts.
"This must follow tangible progress in a political transition that reflects Syria in all its diversity", writes Kallas.
Both the USA and the EU want to improve relations with Syria's new government after the former president Bashar al-Assad was forced out of power in December.
Kallas' comments came in connection with a meeting in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh between high-ranking representatives from the Middle East and Europe on Syria's future.
