Eight people have been taken to hospital since a bicycle battery exploded in an apartment in Malmö. According to Region Skåne, they are being treated for minor injuries.
The apartment is burnt out and the fire is said to have spread to the apartment above.
It's a rechargeable lithium battery that has burned. When such a battery burns, a gas called hydrogen fluoride is formed. It's not good to breathe in, says Håkan Månsson, duty officer at the rescue service, to TT.
According to Region Skåne, eight people are being treated for minor injuries after an apartment fire in Malmö. The youngest person is said to be between 10 and 14 years old.
According to the police, two of them are police officers.
The police state that one police officer has been checked after inhaling smoke.
The alarm came in at 11.50 on Thursday. Shortly afterwards, police, ambulance, and rescue services rushed to the apartment.
We classify the whole thing as an accident. Based on the information we have right now, there is nothing that suggests it would be a crime, says the police's press spokesperson Filip Annas to TT.
