Eight people, including two children, died in a landslide at a dump in Kampala, Uganda, on Saturday. It was the filling masses at the dump in Kiteezi that collapsed after heavy rainfall, according to local authorities.
"Unfortunately, eight people have so far been found dead, six adults and two children", writes the city council on X.
Fourteen people have been rescued and are being treated in hospital. The rescue work was still ongoing in the late afternoon. The authorities are simultaneously ensuring that the rest of the area is stable.
As early as January, Kampala's mayor Erias Lukwago warned that the area around Kiteezi was not safe, according to local media.
