A fire has broken out in a villa in Mariannelund in Eksjö municipality. Five people are said to have been affected, of which four have been taken to hospital by ambulance. The alarm about the explosion and fire came to the police and rescue services at around 10 am.
We have information that there were explosions on the site, but we do not currently know what caused them, says police spokesperson Angelica Israelsson Silfver to TT.
A teenager and a 45-year-old woman are being treated in hospital for serious injuries. A 45-year-old man and another teenager are being treated for minor injuries. The fifth person sought medical attention at a health center.
The fire was fully developed and the house was engulfed in flames during the morning.
The focus now is on preventing the fire from spreading, said the rescue service's operations manager to TT.
By 12 pm, the police reported that the rescue service was working on extinguishing the fire.
According to the police, information has emerged suggesting that some kind of gas leak may be behind the explosion and fire in the villa.
By 12 pm, Highway 40, which runs through Mariannelund, was opened alternately to traffic.
A preliminary investigation into reckless endangerment has been initiated and the site will be cordoned off for a forensic investigation.
