The hotel and restaurant complex Dragon Gate, located at the E4 motorway exit to Älvkarleby, is up for sale again. The eternal project, which began 20 years ago, is on the market for 40 million kronor, reports Upsala Nya Tidning.
Even though we bought it for a smaller sum, we have invested a lot of money in Dragon Gate, says part-owner Thomas Sonesson to UNT.
It was 2004 when businessman Li Jingchun purchased an old hotel on the site, with the aim of converting it into "China's window to Sweden". The area features, among other things, a large building in Chinese style and a large statue depicting a Buddhist saint.
However, the project has been plagued by workplace violations and delays, and has changed owners several times. The last time was in 2018, when it took over a year to sell the property, which has mostly been empty.
