Several cars crashed when they swerved to avoid the dog and two people have been taken to hospital. It is currently unknown how seriously injured they are.
The dog was first discovered at Essingeöarna where it ran onto Essingeleden.
The public tried to stop it, but failed, according to the police's press spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl.
Traffic has resumed after the incident, but the dog is still loose.
