On Thursday evening, Kiruna was left without district heating after a boiler exploded at the heating plant and caused a power outage, reports P4 Norrbotten.

Production resumed after midnight, but Kiruna Kraft tells P4 Norrbotten that they are now running on reserve power. This means that minor disruptions may occur on Friday until full pressure is reached in the district heating network.

Tekniska Verken in Kiruna writes on its website that the boiler exploded "due to a so-called oxygen blast" and that smoke poured out both inside and outside the heating plant.

No one was injured in connection with the incident.
