Teen Charged with Recruiting for Gang Murders from Spain

A 16-year-old from Malmö is being prosecuted for having recruited teenage boys to gang murders in Sweden and Denmark from his home in Spanish Alicante last summer. The parents of a boy who failed with his murder assignment are said to have been threatened by the 16-year-old to have their home blown up if they did not pay their son's "debt".

The boy was arrested with his father and stepmother in Alicante in November last year, following a collaboration between Europol and Swedish, Danish and Spanish police.

Last week, he was charged with two counts of attempted murder, attempted extortion and two counts of serious firearms offenses. A charge is also being brought against the boy for preparing to commit murder and attempted serious extortion for crimes he is alleged to have committed before he turned 15.

The father and stepmother are not charged with violent crimes, but are charged in a case that also involves narcotics offenses.

Digital traces

According to the prosecutor, the boy has recruited and instructed other teenagers in Sweden to murder people in Sweden and Denmark in the spring and summer of 2024. He is alleged to have done this on various social media platforms, under aliases such as "Frankling_Saintt" and "The_Recruiterrr".

There is a lot of digital evidence saved in these apps he has used: Instagram, Snapchat, Telegram, Signal. That's where he has conducted his communication, says prosecutor Anna Arnell.

The evidence includes chats and audio files where he can be heard talking.

During one of the murder attempts, shots were fired at a door in Stockholm, while in the other case, a man in Malmö was shot in the leg.

The preparation for murder refers to an incident in Copenhagen, where a boy from Luleå was tasked with murdering one or more people from the Comanches motorcycle gang. He was arrested before any shots were fired.

Threats against parents

At the time of the arrest, he lost his pistol and his parents received severe threats from the 15-year-old and others shortly afterwards, including because of the lost pistol, according to the prosecutor.

They want money, at least 50,000 kronor from the parents, says Arnell.

According to the prosecutor, the boy can be linked to gang leader Ismail Abdo, also known as the strawberry, who had a conflict with Comanches in Denmark and Foxtrot leader Rawa Majid in Sweden.

How the 15-year-old got involved in this is not known.

But he has a contact network that he has built up through social media and if you end up in a group chat, you get suggestions for further groups, so it probably expands quite quickly. The explanation is probably in these social media that they use, says Arnell.

The 16-year-old denies the charges.
