Rescue services and police are on site and several streets in the block around Fredsgatan, including Sagerska palatset where the Prime Minister lives, were blocked off. The alarm came at 15.13 on Saturday.
The rescue service believes that the fire originated in an electrical cabinet.
It is supposed to be a fire that broke out on the second floor, and that fire is now extinguished, says the police's press spokesperson Rebecca Landberg.
No people have been injured and all who were in the building have been evacuated. There is no information that any works of art have been damaged.
”The rescue service will continue to work on the site and they estimate that it will be blocked off for at least three hours”, the police write on their website at 17.41.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) greets via his press secretary that the Government Offices' staff are helping with the work of saving art from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
”Parts of their art collection will temporarily move into our premises while the extinguishing work is in progress", the written statement reads.
