September 14: The County Administrative Board begins the final vote count.
September 16: Overseas votes and late-arriving early votes are counted, also called "Wednesday votes".
September 20: According to the Swedish Election Authority, the final election results for the Riksdag are expected to be ready the weekend after election day. The final count for regional and municipal elections continues.
September 28: The Riksdag convenes. This will also include the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers for the next term.
"Should the Prime Minister request his resignation before then, I will at that stage initiate the formation of a government. That was done in 2022," sitting Speaker Andreas Norlén tells SVT.
September 29: Opening of the Riksdag, the Riksdag begins a new working year.
When the Riksdag has elected a new Speaker, or re-elected the incumbent, the Speaker takes over the process and presents a proposal for a Prime Minister to the Riksdag.
The new Riksdag votes on the Speaker's proposal sometime after the Riksdag has convened. If fewer than half of the members of the Riksdag vote no, the candidate is approved. Abstentions are considered to mean that the candidate is accepted, or tolerated.
If the Riksdag says no, the Speaker may present a new proposal for a candidate for prime minister, which the Riksdag may vote on.
The Speaker has a total of four attempts to get a new Prime Minister elected in the Riksdag, otherwise a special election awaits.
October 12: No later than two weeks after the Riksdag takes office, a vote on the incumbent Prime Minister must take place.
November 12: Last day to submit a budget to the Riksdag.
