Swedish restaurant and hotel industry is heading towards a tough 2025. According to the industry organization Visita, a year with zero growth is expected.
"We are in a low-conjuncture that characterizes the end of 2024 and the first half of 2025. Given the economic conditions, this is good, but it is far back to the growth that characterized the industry in the 10s", says chief economist Thomas Jakobsson in a press release.
According to Visita, it is increased rents, rising purchase prices and historically high wage increases that continue to put pressure on the restaurant industry. It is also tough for hotels with a negative booking situation.
"Conferences with overnight stays have clearly slowed down in the last year, as organizations characterized by low-conjuncture have been able to switch to digital meetings faster than before", says Thomas Jakobsson.
