It is my opinion that the screen to a high degree steals childhood from many of our children, said Denmark's Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt (The Moderate Party) when he received the proposal on Thursday.

The Welfare Commission was established in 2023 by the Danish government with a focus on the well-being of children and young people up to 25 years old.

The Commission has now submitted 35 proposals to the government, one of which is that no one under 13 years old should have their own mobile phone or tablet. According to the Commission, this will provide space for play and leisure activities and socializing with friends.

As an alternative, the Commission proposes that children should have a kind of basic phone that can make calls and send SMS to keep in touch with, for example, their parents.
