Colombia's President: Cocaine No Worse Than Whisky

Cocaine is not a worse drug than alcohol, and is mostly illegal because it comes from South America. This is claimed by Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia, which produces the most cocaine in the world.

The researchers have studied it. Cocaine is no worse than whiskey, he says during a live broadcast ministerial meeting.

He claims that the world's attitude towards drugs is discriminatory.

Cocaine is illegal because it is manufactured in Latin America.

Petro also means that the "war on drugs" that, among others, the USA is waging, and has gotten Colombia to join for long periods, is misguided.

If we want peace, we must remove the business opportunities. This can be taken down if cocaine is legalized worldwide. It can be sold like wine.

Despite being a dangerous and illegal drug, cocaine is very popular in many parts of the world. In 2023, Colombia's production increased by 53 percent to 2,600 tons, estimates the UN agency UNODC.
