"The grant is intended to prevent children and young people from ending up in crime. Our investigation shows that a large part of the funds have not been used for the purpose for which the grant was intended", says the Director-General of the National Board of Health and Welfare, Björn Eriksson, in a press release.

Last autumn, Sveriges Radio's Ekoredaktion revealed that Botkyrka Municipality had used parts of a government grant of a total of 17 million kronor for a New York trip and a marketing plan, which was later scrapped.

The National Board of Health and Welfare's in-depth investigation shows that "there were significant deficiencies in the municipality's handling".

Among other things, the invoicing basis was inadequate and documentation was lacking. The National Board of Health and Welfare also notes that several activities did not fulfill the purpose of the grant.
