It is now clear: Abeba Aregawi will receive the silver medal from the OS final in London 2012.
This since Russian Tatjana Tomasjova has chosen not to appeal the doping ban and ten-year suspension imposed by the sports arbitration tribunal Cas in September this year.
Abeba Aregawi competed for Ethiopia in the OS 2012 and began representing Sweden later the same year.
She received as recently as during the OS in Paris a bronze medal from the London Games – now it is upgraded to a silver.
The final results from the 1,500-meter race in London have been changed several times due to doping suspensions. Both the winner and the runner-up, the Turks Asli Cakir Alptekin and Gamze Bulut, have previously been banned.
Aregawi finished fifth in the OS final back then – more than twelve years later, she is a silver medalist.
