The Media Support Committee has made a decision on the distribution of media support for 2025. A total of 166 media outlets will share 829 million kronor, according to a press release.
The Committee did not need to prioritize among applicants as the allocation was sufficient to cover all media outlets that met the requirements. The allocation for media support in 2025 amounts to approximately one billion kronor.
"It is very good that the allocation for the new media support has been sufficient. The support is crucial for strengthening democracy and ensuring independent news dissemination throughout the country", says Kajsa Rohdin, Head of Department at the Media Authority, according to the press release.
Media support is provided in the form of general editorial support, extended editorial support, transitional support, and distribution support.
Prior to 2024, 218 newspapers applied for media support, of which 189 met the formal requirements of having a certain number of readers and a sufficiently large editorial staff. A total of 166 media outlets were granted support for a total of 810 million kronor.
